Many of us choose electric toys for our cats to provide entertainment without needing constant involvement (while still keeping an eye on them, of course). The concept behind this toy is fantastic, but the execution falls short. Unfortunately, you find yourself having to readjust the toy every minute—or even more frequently—for it to function correctly.
To clarify for those who might be confused: the furry/feather/ribbony end is not meant to protrude from the fabric like other similar toys. Its purpose is to engage the cat’s hunting instincts by staying hidden beneath the fabric. The hoop inside the fabric hem helps to keep the shape taut, allowing for some arching. This lets the cat see movement above the fabric, offering glimpses of a mouse-like shape from the side. The idea is spot on, and I truly appreciate this aspect of the toy—if only it performed as intended with the materials used.
Where it goes wrong is in two key areas: 1) The fabric is too lightweight. 2) The wire/filament hoop inside the hem isn’t properly secured, leading to it becoming detached with minimal play.
The hoop’s structure is crucial for keeping the mat flat on the floor while allowing it to rise at certain points for the cat to “peek” at the mouse. When the frame disconnects, the “mouse wand” gets snagged at the gap in the circle, causing the fabric to twist and lose its purpose. The motor unit often ends up flipped over due to tangles or the cat’s attempts to play. I’ve had two of these toys (the initial order and a replacement, as I thought the first was a fluke). In the third picture, you can see a one-inch gap where the filament has come loose, leading to malfunction. Even this small gap causes significant issues. I’ve tried to rethread the wire to reconnect it, but the hem is so full of thread, and the wire tends to get caught at seams, making it impossible to fix without eventually ripping through the fabric.
I ordered a replacement, but upon arrival, the hoop was already disconnected. The first two pictures in my review were taken just a minute after opening the new box. I’m returning both units for a refund. If I weren’t so busy, I might be tempted to keep one of the motor units and create my own “fabric and hoop cover” since the manufacturers did get many aspects right.
If it weren’t for the lightweight fabric and the issues with the hoop and frame, my cats would adore this toy. They do enjoy it for the brief moments it works before needing a reset. The “mouse,” random movements, lights, and the ability to catch glimpses of the “prey” are features often missing from similar toys, so those elements are truly commendable.
However, I don’t want to be resetting this toy every 20 to 60 seconds for it to function properly. I would advise against purchasing this product, as the manufacturers need to address the design flaws.

My cat is obsessed with this toy! We’ve already purchased a second one because the wire on the first broke, causing it to lose its shape and bunch up. I find myself replacing the batteries 2 to 3 times a week since my cat plays with it so often. It can get a bit noisy when your cat holds onto it for a while, but I think both speed settings are great and safe for pets.

The product arrived with dead batteries, so it was nonfunctional right out of the box. I had to buy new batteries at an additional cost, only to discover that it merely spun the ribbons without actually moving. Even the lightest touch from our 3-month-old kitten caused it to stop completely.

Update 3/11/22: The toy is still functioning well and gets daily use from my two cats. The feathers have been completely torn off, but surprisingly, the wand is still intact despite my senior cat’s attempts to chew on it. I’m having difficulty finding replacement feathers as the ones I’ve tried are too heavy, preventing the ball from standing and swinging properly. For now, I’ve hot glued some light feathers and ribbon from an old toy, which works. I share the frustration of others regarding the unavailability of individual replacement wands. However, I noticed another seller offering two balls with wands and two replacement wands for around $30, making it odd that I can’t just buy a single wand.
PROS: This is undoubtedly the best toy I’ve purchased for my 9-month-old kitten. She plays with it almost non-stop since we got it. She engages with it all over the house, both on carpet and tile, purring the entire time. She bats and attacks it when it’s moving and still plays with it when off, looking at me as if to say, “Mom, fix it!” My senior cat enjoys it too, but he loses interest after a few minutes, probably because he likes being bigger and faster than the kitten during play. We’ve only had it for a day, so I can’t comment on its longevity yet, but my husband dropped it on the tile floor pretty hard while carrying the kitten, and it remained intact with no issues in motor function, so it seems durable!
CONS: I initially thought this toy was motion-activated and would start moving when touched, then stop after a while. I was a bit disappointed to find out that you have to press a button for 10 minutes of motion, which then auto shuts off. It’s a bit inconvenient to keep pressing the button for my very active kitten, but it’s worth it since it keeps her occupied. When she gets bored or wants attention, she meows incessantly and looks for trouble to get my attention!
As others mentioned, the packaging was tough to open, but not more than other plastic packages. I managed to open it with one arm (the other in a sling), scissors, and some effort without injuring myself! The battery pack was also a bit tricky but manageable. Just use a small screwdriver to loosen the screw, then a flathead to pop the battery pack open, insert the batteries, and snap it back in.
Overall, it was reasonably priced, does exactly what I wanted, and my kitten absolutely loves it. I’d give it a 9/10 rating; the only reason it’s not a perfect 10 is that I have to keep getting up to turn it on when my kitten meows at me! 😹
