I got this because my cat started showing behavior issues with me being in vet school all day. This toy helps keep her active during the day when I can’t play with her, and she could probably lose a pound or so.
I’ve noticed many fantastic reviews already, so I’ll address a few of the 1-star comments, which surprised me:
1) If your cat isn’t interested: Try twisting the ball to open the larger holes, making it easier for food to come out at first. This will help train them to understand how it works. As they get the hang of it, gradually make the holes smaller so they have to engage with it longer.
2) If your cat knows how it works but isn’t interested: I’m sure if your cat were hungry, they’d play to get food. If they’re being overfed, they won’t be motivated to work for it. If the holes are too tiny and they can only get one piece every five minutes, Iâd give up too! Patience is key, and youâll need to find the right balance. If they know theyâll be fed regardless of their effort, they wonât bother engaging. Starting with moist treats or something special can pique their interest. Also, remember to adjust the hole sizes based on the food or treats youâre using. It makes a big difference, and if they struggle for too long without success, they might be discouraged from trying again.
3) Instructions are included inside the ball. If you can’t figure out how to open it, I question your problem-solving skills! There’s a circle with a little handle on the sideâjust twist it left to open (righty tighty, lefty loosey). The ball has a notch for adjusting the hole sizes. Take a close look; there are big and small holes, and you can even leave some of the larger ones open. The locking mechanism works well, and the top fits securely. It has never broken or popped open while my cat plays.
4) If food spills everywhere: Check the size of the holes! Adjust them according to the food youâre usingâeasy fix! One reviewer mentioned ants; your cat should eat all the food unless they’re overfed. If ants are still an issue, consider using the ball only when youâre home, so you can pick it up afterward. The real problem seems to be the ants; no need to give a bad rating due to an unrelated issue.
Overall, this is a fantastic product that’s easy to use and one of the cheapest cat toys I’ve bought! I’ve spent a lot on various toys, but my cat only shows interest when Iâm there to make them move. Now she has a reason to engage with a toy on her own, and Iâve even caught her playing with it at night, rolling it around even when there’s no food inside.
