I have a German Spitz and was researching FURminator brushes. There’s some debate about their use on dogs with undercoats, so I decided to try the orange one (for long hair). I found it effective but was unsure about how often to use it.
Then, I discovered this one that resembles a comb and took a chance on it because it seemed safer. I was EVEN MORE IMPRESSED with this gray brush (which I hadn’t seen sold anywhere else except Amazon; there were no reviews or videos). It removes more undercoat than the orange one because the metal teeth are larger, allowing it to penetrate better for dead undercoat removal. It’s far superior and gives me more confidence that I’m only removing the undercoat.
Additionally, my dog seems to enjoy being brushed with this gray one much more. I think it’s excellent! It’s the best brush Iâve triedâbetter than the pin brush, metal comb, orange FURminator, and slicker brush.
I highly recommend this oneâcheck out the pictures!

Wow, the Furminator tool is absolutely fantastic! We previously had the older version with the flat, close-set pins designed for long-haired dogs, but our dog wanted nothing to do with it.
After unboxing this new tool, I let him sniff it and then went to work on his coat. I was blown away by how effectively it workedâno need to apply pressure or tug at tangles!
Pros:
Bonus: He was wagging his tail and staying still throughout the grooming, even when I tackled his neck, chest beard, and ears! I collected handfuls of undercoat after what I thought was a thorough brushing just a couple of days prior.
Con: The tool did such a great job loosening the hair that small clumps of undercoat would fly into the air instead of collecting on him at the end of each stroke (unlike with my previous brushes/combs). I think I ended up with more hair on me than usual (and on my black pantsâbecause isnât that how it always goes with goldens? đ), but I’m perfectly fine with that.
